No meat and no eggs - what protein for breakfast

seaisamazing · 06/04/2024 10:34

Good morning,

Ok - I’m not being eating well due to lots of stresses in my life but now is the turning point as I wobble too much for my liking 🤣

problem is eggs I’m intolerant to so absolute no. No meat ever.

What can I eat for protein? Thank you soooo much - as eggs are so easy but my body can’t tolerate them. I struggle with breakfast with no protein and then I get busted for the day - so maybe if I could fix breakfast then the rest would be easy 🤞I’m heavy carb / nearly all carbs diet which I want to change.

I want to be a fit / healthy / wobble free mama 🤩 x

Chia pudding? There's a recipe for it on diet doctor I think - low carb and vegan

Nuts, Greek yoghurt, protein shakes

HaPPy8 · 06/04/2024 10:37

Is the egg allergy very new? What did you eat before?

Oats, fruit, honey, nuts and Greek yoghurt
Dahl
Portobello mushrooms with cheese
Wholemeal or high protein bread with peanut butter, almond butter etc
Avocado on toast with cheese
scrambled tofu with veg

Fish, either smoked or fresh. Fish is often served for breakfast panfried or grilled in posher hotels here.

WhatsitWiggle · 06/04/2024 10:43

Skyr yoghurt, topped with seeds. Add a protein shake and you've got about 40g protein from that meal.

Movinghouseatlast · 06/04/2024 10:44

Pancakes made with ground Oats and nuts with banana and milk.

Full fat Greek yoghurt with nuts and seeds.

I’ve never tried scrambled tofu in my life! I must try it thank you. Is that the regular tofu block you buy in the supermarket and press? Then pan fry it? And mush it up a bit?

smoked salmon first thing - I can’t do fish at breakfast time I need to warm up to it 🤣 - good for lunch though 👍

thank you

I mix my own muesli using barley & oats, then I add loads of chia & linseeds, quinoa flakes, sunflower seeds, extra nuts. I add oat milk and chopped fruit the night before, then in the morning I add a dollop of soy yogurt. It’s not carb free, but all the carb ingredients are providing protein.

i find it much easier to cut down carbs from meals in the rest of the day.

I have kefir yogurt with a variety of dried/fresh fruit nuts and seeds. I chop and change daily so doesn’t get boring. Or peanut butter on toast depending on my mood.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 06/04/2024 10:48

Home made granola with lots of nuts and seeds (Nigella has a recipe). I make it with a combo of oats and rice flakes ( from health food shops). Then cut out carbs at lunchtime and just have a huge raw salad (peppers, courgette, cucumber, leaves etc plus beetroot and seeds) and something bean-based in the evening.

Perfect28 · 06/04/2024 10:50

Beans in all forms

idontlikealdi · 06/04/2024 10:51

Greek yogurt

Avalovelace · 06/04/2024 10:52

Overnight oats! Then sprinkle nuts/seeds on in the morning.

Firefretted · 06/04/2024 10:53

Smoked trout is much milder than smoked salmon if it's the strong taste putting you off at breakfast. I have it on high protein rye with low fat cream cheese and beetroot

msbevvy · 06/04/2024 10:54

Grilled/air fried halloumi?

LamonicBibber1 · 06/04/2024 11:00

Porridge with oat bran, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts, almonds, peanut powder and full fat greek yogurt. I add berries and milled flaxseed too.

Walkingwasgoodforme · 06/04/2024 11:01

For scrambled tofu mash it up with a fork and don't bother pressing it etc.
I add herbs and spices ( turmeric and paprika and whatever herbs are handy) and garlic. Sometimes I add veg but generally cook those first.

No I’ve always been ill with eggs my whole life so just avoided them - well whole eggs cooked as such scrambled/ omelette / boiled etc. I’m seriously ill for 24 hrs with stomach cramps etc. However I do love them.

it’s ok in cakes etc - but I tried eggs again 3 days ago and was D&V / tummy cramps . So I’m not touching cooked pure eggs again. That was my last attempt with them 🤣

It’s always have a carb breakfast - toast / crumpets etc something fast and minimal effort as lots to do in the mornings with all the children. Suppose it’s the quick easy solution.

thank you

Sorry, cook the tofu too! The veggies just take a bit longer so I cook them until they're getting there and then add the tofu!

xsquared · 06/04/2024 11:17

Greek yoghurt with raspberries, banana and honey or some variation of that.

Isitbedtimeyet3 · 06/04/2024 12:02

Greek yogurt is good or protein shakes (clean ones though). You can buy clean powders to mix with water or milk etc

MinervaMcGonagallsCat · 06/04/2024 12:30

Yogurt - especially high protein yogurt
Nuts
cheese
Beans
Quorn or soya sausage

Winterjoy · 06/04/2024 12:45

Vegan chickpea flour brownies - I cook this recipe, cut into 8 and freeze, then take one out the day before to defrost in the fridge overnight (although I have eaten them frozen before, in a pinch). One serving works out to about 270 calories so if it's a day I'll be going several hours without eating then I crumble it into a yoghurt/add fruit to increase the volume.
