hmm well they are sort of braised in the soaking water, so not the same as frying a fresh one. dunno.

Ah! Well that's clear as mud Think I will cook fresh ones and not bother with the others. Thanks all.

The dried ones once they have been in water can be added to the risotto.

I prefer fresh mushrooms though and they do need cooking first.
