Tomato advice

Does anyone know how long it is necessary to skin and deseed tomatoes for children's recipies. DS loves tomato recipies but it would be great to just chop them and throw them in without all the hassle of preparing them. All the recipe books say to skin and deseed them but i'm not sure why.

How old is your ds? My dd is 11 months, and eats whizzed up family food, which often contains tomatoes, fresh or canned. I suppose it depends on whether he will cope with bits in his food, or likes it really smooth. The skin/ seeds will just come out the other end undigested

whoops, i never skinned and deseeded tomatoes for my ds. I didn't know you were supposed to. I've never seen an italian mother do it and they eat a lot of tomatoes. Just be prepared not to panic when the seeds come out whole the other end.

I don't bother (other than picking out bigger bits of skin once its cooked). HAven't even noticed tomato seed poo either!

Thanks for your messages - I won't bother with all the fiddly prep any more!

My DS is 16 months and he eats everything else skin and all. I only carried on skinning/de-seeding the tomatoes as I thought there might be a significant reason for it.
