So my internet shopping attempt has resulted in three large bags of potatoes. What am I going to do with them all?? Recipe ideas please.

Not quite got the hang of this internet shopping business. Very large bag of baking potatoes and two large bags of new potatoes. They're quite short dated and so won't last longer than five days. Any ideas?

You could probably mash and freeze the baking potatoes.

Use the new potatoes (I often roast them in oven with skins on)

Oh didn't think about freezing mashed potatoes. Do I have to do anything special to it or just bung it in the freezer?

could you get some leeks and make leek and potato soup which you could then freeze?

I'm glad it's not just me. Last time i did an online shop, instead of ordering 4 individual baking potatos I mistakenly ordered 4 bags of baking potatos.

Aha I have leeks!

You can extend the date on them by taking them out of the plastic and putting them in a paper bag in a cool dark cupboard (under the stairs?). As long as they are not green or growing too many shoots you can still eat them. The dates on the bags will be best befores not use bys I think.

I also agree on the soup thing, just don't blend it like I did once - potato does not like being blended and goes all sticky - yuck It looked like wall paper paste

Are you sure they won't last longer than that-pots will keep in cool place for ages and ages,as long as you keep the mice away.

Old potatoes will keep for ages. If taken out of plastic and put somewhere out of the light. New pots probably need eating within a week or so.

sparkleymummy · 20/03/2008 20:53

Top tips. Had no idea I was supposed to take them out of the plastic wrapper. I'm forever throwing away unused potatoes!

I'm going to be adventurous (I'm not the worlds best cook) and try the irish potato
cakes!

New potatoes - these are yummy with olive oil, salt (if not for kids) and rosemary.

Cheese and potato pie with the regular spuds.
