Prawn & avocado sandwich - bought yesterday can I eat it today?

I bought it from a posh poncy bakery. I phoned them and they said the prawns had been previously frozen and the sandwich would have been made yesterday morning.

Would you eat it? i would love you to say yes!

no
it would be slimey

Yes, it was made yesterday. Presumably you've kept it in the fridge though?

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 18/03/2008 11:48

Yes it's been in the fridge the whole time. is there some 'eat within 24 hrs' of defrosting prawns rule? I would be outside that I imagine. I don't know when they would have made up the prawn mayonnaise....

so did you eat it?

I would have eaten it but surely the avo would have been a bit brown.

I nearly did and then this mystery 24 hour rule I thought I'd heard of got the better of me. I'm PG and didn't think it was worth the risk after all that. The experience of throwing it away was mortifying

Well no, not really worth the risk if you're pregnant.

That 24 hr rule sounds like a bit of an urban legend to me, I've not come across it and have a level 4 food and hygeine qualification thingy. I'd say 2 to 4 days for defrosted prawns, kept refrigerated.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 19/03/2008 08:19

oh cool well that's worth knowing for future! Thanks for that

Never heard of a 24 hour rule! I would have thought it would be fine, although the avocado might have been a bit brown/mushy.

But when pregnant, never worth taking a risk!
