Nice hot chocolate sauce without cream, is this possible?

I am thinking melted chocolate mixed with some sugar and butter would be alright, as I haven't got any cream.
Have got a small tub of creme freiche, should I use that?

Melted chocolate with milk in it would be better than using butter, I would have thought.

I used to chop up Mars bars and heat them up with milk ... makes a gorgeous sauce.

Creme fraiche would be find - or you could just melt the chocolate itself without anything else?

You only need plain chocolate, butter and water for chocolate sauce.

Melt some very good plain chocolate (70% is good) in a bain marie, when melted stir in some very good unsalted butter and add a little boiling water to get the desired consistency.

fine, obviously!

You can just melt a Mars bar TBH.

Chocolate plus mascarpone cheese works well.

Thank you all, I will do one of the above, depending on my mood. I only buy good choc Anna

Is there such a thing as bad chocolate...? [ponders]

WigWamBam · 16/03/2008 18:16

Chocolate and mascarpone cheese ...

I used to make a lovely unhealthy chocolate sauce with cocoa, sugar, butter & golden syrup, but I've forgotten the proportions

I just did melted choc with butter and a bit of hot water, but used some icing sugar to sweeten it up a bit in the end.

They all sounded scrummy though

Anyone avoiding dairy can do MY one which is waaaaayy better

2-3 tbs cocoa powder (not drinking choc!)
1 Tbs soy margarine
2-3 tbs soy milk/rice milk2
2 tbs golden syrup or other pref sweetner like agave nectar
