I always include salmon to make it a bit less bland. I added smoked haddock last week which DH loved but me and DCs didn't like as much.

Then I just chuck in frozen peas and corn and voila!

We had it. It was delicious.

I used cod, prawns, cherry tomatoes, peas, corn, parsley sauce and mashed potato on the top. We had it with geen beans.

Can't think why we don't have it more often.

I didn't say cheese sauce but assumed you'd be using it.

cheese sauce in fish pie? OMG noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Twiglett · 16/03/2008 09:26

I do

smoked cod and plain haddock (or vice versa) .. put in pan, cover with milk, add onion, peppercorns and bayleaf and poach (bring to boil simmer for 20 mins)

remove fillets to cool slightly and then flake into mouth size pieces

strain and reserve milk

make roue and white sauce with the milk, add frozen fish and frozen mixed veg to the roue then mix into the flaked fish

top with mash (I like horseradish mash)

optional top with grated cheese

bake for 45 mins

Smoked haddock, hard boiled eggs, prawns, skinned tomatoes, parsley, white sauce, few capers, mash on top & grated cheese. yum!

I cook through any veg I add and then once the pie is assembled it goes in the oven for 20 minutes to heat right through again and crisp up the top. Maybe I could save time and not precook the peas, etc.

I am doing this today.

How much horseradish in the mash, Twig?

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/04/2008 16:09

Fish pie has to have hard boiled eggs in it, and definitely not cheese sauce!

Occasionally throw a few capers in as well which I love but the kids aren't so keen on.

NotABanana · 06/04/2008 16:13

Haven't got capers.

Have never put boiled eggs in. Intrigued. Maybe next time as the dish is close to full!

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 06/04/2008 16:14

BIWI

Sorry but capers are
