DP does tinned tomatoes, tom puree tons of onion and garlic with sausagemeat balls and spaghetti cooked in it.
The kids love it.

I prefer carbonara.

abigaillockhart · 10/03/2008 13:03

Fry some onions and garlic until soft, add a tin of tomatoes and a glass of white wine. Cook until it's really reduced down and thick, stir in some prawns, basil and smoked salmon if you have it and a dollop of creme fraiche.

I normally have everthing in for this except for the basil which it's fine without.

TheHonEnid · 10/03/2008 13:04

I dont have those

have the first one (the blue one) and have made every single pasta recipe except the one with hare

Some great recipies on WanderingTrolley's link. Thanks

Boil a load of broccoli. Add a short pasta (we use oricchiette but fusili is fine) and boil til cooked.

In a small frying pan add some olive oil, loads of garlic and some finely chopped anchovies.

Drain pasta, add oil mixture, loadsa parmesan and pepper.

DELISH!

Brangelina · 10/03/2008 13:05

Alla sorrentina - tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese melted in it
Alla norma - aubergines, onions and garlic served with shavings of pecorino cheese
Alla siciliana - tomato, olives and capers served with pecorino as above
Orecchiette con broccoli - pan fry pre cooked broccoli with a little garlic, season and serve on orecchiette pasta with shavings of parmesan or pecorino
Ai 4 formaggi - make a bechamel sauce with 4 different cheeses (usually including gorgonzola) melted into it
Pesto, pmodori secchi e piselli - panfry normal green pesto with finely chopped dried tomatoes and peas, you could also add spring onions and/or broad beans to ring the changes.

marina · 10/03/2008 13:06

Are these already passe pasta?

Elizabeth David's sauce with chicken livers, lemon, garlic, bacon and lightly cooked egg

Broccoli with sauteed red onion and anchovies (this one goes nicely with wholemeal pasta)

Bacon, leeks and creme fraiche

marina · 10/03/2008 13:07

Saw one in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago which was pesto, goats cheese and chilli. Been meaning to give that a try.

Sometimes when stodge is required and I have been too bone idle to do anything, simply spaghetti with olive oil and a load of parmesan is just right.

Nigella's stick pancetta and garlic olive oil in the oven for 20 minutes, then throw a load of linguine in it is good (plus parmesan as well).

Cheese and brocolli - cook the pasta, throw in some blue cheese and some steamed purple sprouting, and a little milk/cream/water to slacken it.

Easy puttanesca (not really comforting, very piquant), salted anchovies nd capers (wash the salt off), plus some black olives, tin of tomatoes and some chopped onion and garlic. Fry onion and garlic off, add all the other ingredients then whizz in a blender (not too much, want it chunky) and add to cooked pasta.

Or, for real stodge and comfort, my dd's tuna pasta bake. Cook penne, add tin of tuna and tin of sweetcorn, throw in tin tomatoes (or tub of tomato and mascarpone sauce), mix all together, put in oven dish, cover with crushed doritos (yes, really) and cheese on top then put in oven til bubbling. DD loves cooking this (I love it as well, means I can sit down and read Grazia)

TheHonEnid · 10/03/2008 13:09

mm liver one sounds good (for me alone, alas)
