Have found recipe for dumplings but don't have any suet. Anything I could use instead?

I just make balls of normal pastry, and put them in with the casserole in an open dish in the oven. My lot don't like suet dumplings (except dh) but they like them like this.

You can add herbs and flavourings if you want hth

Thanks. DH said we don't need dumplings but I'll see how I go. Have already made a pudding and some scones and muffins.

you could do a scone based topping if you like

google "cobbler" and you will get loads of ideas

I did but couldn't see the actual recipe for cobbler. Casserole in. I am thinking it will take 1 hour. Does that sound about right?
