what is "packed" sugar?

I'd love to try out a recipe I found on the net (Yam brownies)and it says in the ingredients "packed brown sugar". Now, does that translate into light brown, dark or muscovado sugar? Recipe being from an American site..

any soft brown sugar - the 'packed' refers to the measurment ie squash it down into the measuring cup with a spoon, don't just shake it in
