I know I have to make a starter and then do some other stuff... [clueless emoticon]
I've a really good friend who's having a hard time and she LOVES sourdough bread, which can't be bought out here. Can anyone tell me how to make it to cheer her up?

me but i don't have an easily postable guide to making a starter. here is a simple version (adding yeast is unorthodox)

I know the whole process is decribed in 'Moro The Cookbook'

'bread matters' is good, although he goes for rye flour which i find difficult to get. i use boring old strong white for starteer and wholemeal for loaf, so it ends up about 50/50. got my original recipe from king arthur flour bakers companion.
