I've offered to make a sausage pie 4 Mothers Day buffet on Sunday - but I have no recipe!! Surely it's not just a big sausage roll with sausage meat and pastry??

I can't even imagine what it is.

Do you mean like a sausage plait or a sausage casserole in pastry (could thicken the casserole to make in to pie filling)?

MsPontipine · 25/02/2008 20:03

Plait.

That's it basically. I usually bung in some diced apple.

I do sausage plait a lot and it is delish!

Buy a packet of puff pastry and roll out into a large rectangle.

for the sausage filling mix together

Sausagemeat (2 packs of the best sausages you can afford... skinned)
8 oz grated cheese
Finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons tomato puree
some fresh breadcrumbs (2 oz or so...)
salt and pepper

Mix all the filling ingredients together (easiest with your hands) and put the filling down the middle of the pastry rectangle.

At an angle cut through the pastry at angles and alternate each side to make a plait shape using milk to stick the pastry together.

If time is short just wrap one side of pastry over the over. Pierce with a knife to let the steam out.

Cook at 180 degrees for approx 35-40 mins.

It is lovely!

Oooh cheese - I never thought of that

MsPontipine · 25/02/2008 20:40

Ooh I do like the sound of that - thank you :-)

It sounds lovely. I don't understand the plait aspect so I'd do it as a pie.

I did it and it was gorgeous and went down very well!

I minced onion in mincer as ds thinks he doen't like onion. Fried thst and mixed in some made Paxo stuffing (sorry!)

Mixed that with the sausagemeat. Used packet puff pastry - lined a metal like a quiche tray and had enough for a full lid on top too. Wrote MUM on in extra pastry. Glazed with egg. Cooked for about an hour on a lowish heat - turned out a treat.

So did my Black Forest trifle.

Happy Mother's Day to all xxxxxxx
