What else do I need?

Can I put broccoli in the pie? Oh and does the fish need to be cooked in a pan before going in the oven?

TIA

I boil the fish in milk for 10 mins. steam the veg - I use broccoli, cauli, peas and sweetcorn then put in an oven proof dish cover with sauce and top with cheese and breadcrumbs

is it plain cod or smoked? I always think fish pie is nicer with one smoked one plain of cod and haddock

cook fish in milk with peppercorns, onion and bay leaf then remove from milk and break into pieces

use the milk to make a white sauce (this'll be your bechamel I assume so you could just poach your fish in water and then pour over the bechamel)

pour over fish, (optional) add frozen prawns and frozen mixed veg

top with mash (nice with horseradish in it IMHO) and bake for 45 mins

serve broccoli on side

I steam veg (any really) and fish. Put a bit of herbs in the white sauce and a bit of cheese then mix it all in and put mash on top then grill for a bit. Kids love it and it's very easy to do. HTH

I tend not to put broccoli in because it's quite strong flavoured. Peas and sweercorn and cooked carrots are good. My children like it with chopped up gherkins and grated cheese on top of the mash. They also like it served with a few crisps. My mother always served crisps with anything soft like fish pie or macaroni cheese. Try it - it's nice!
