IMO NO. Anchovies (finely diced) are great in bolognese or chilli, or as part of pizza toppings (if you like them) or even eaten straight from the jar , but not with chicken, it is too strong a flavour.

No not chicken, good with lamb and beef though.

sushistar · 19/02/2008 17:57

No. Yuk.

mazzystar · 19/02/2008 17:58

ooh, i wouldn't if i were you
maybe some olives instead, esp if doing tomatos/peppers?
never keen on mixing fish and flesh personally

RubySlippers · 19/02/2008 17:58

there was obvioulsy a reason why i have never cooked them together before

just baked chicken breast seems so dull

No! Anchovies don't go with anything. They are the Devil's eyebrows and should be classified as a controlled substance.

have you gvt a lemon? grate zest of a lemon over it with some rosemary or thyme, its a revelation

ComeOVeneer · 19/02/2008 18:05

If you aren't keen on baking why not try poaching in a little low salt stock with lemon juice and chives or (my current love) a george foremn grill with a few herbs/spices.

I make a nigel slater quick dish which is chicken in parmesan breadcrumbs served with a sauce made from oil, capers, mustard and chopped anchovies and it is absolutely delicious.

thank you very much - some lovely ideas

i have gone for olive oil and lemon zest with loads of crushed garlic - no devil's eyebrows
