We have pasta and little else.
Online delivery arriving tomorrow so I don't want to go out shopping.
What pasta can we make with cupboard basics?

pesto

cheese , parmesan if you have it and olive oil

colditz · 19/02/2008 17:44

Tuna and passata

Carmenere · 19/02/2008 17:44

Tomato with chilli and olives is a firm favourite here.

have you got ham in the fridge, frozen peas and cream?

or cream cheese and throw in any veg you've got... brocolli or spinach?

or even just a jar of pasta sauce/pesto and grated cheese on top for total simplicity!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/02/2008 17:45

eeek never tuna in pasta!

But anyway, we have all sorts of bits of cheese so I was thinking a bastardised macaroni cheese bake thingy.
Got mice bread too , and salad.

Tuna, sweetcorn, peas, spring onion and mayonnaise.

Or, tuna and tin of cream of tomato soup.

Or pasta, spring onion, butter, grated cheese.

Celery · 19/02/2008 17:45

As a student, I used to live on pasta, mixed with plain tinned tomatoes and grated cheese. If mixed with plenty of salt and pepper, and some butter, it's actually pretty darn tasty, and as about as basic as it gets!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/02/2008 17:46

muce bread

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 19/02/2008 17:46

i've heard of tiger bread and hedgehog bread but that sounds disgusting

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/02/2008 17:46

ofgs muce bread? mice bread?

I am too tired.

Tinned tomatoes and cream cheese melted in.

White sauce with ham and mushrooms/other veg - a la carbonara.

Cook in veg stock a la Prisoner Cell Block H

RubySlippers · 19/02/2008 17:47

olive oil and garlic

finley slice 6 or 7 cloves of garlic and put into around 4 inches of olive oil (in a pan)

heat the oil very slowly and just before the garlic starts to colour turn the heat off

toss in loads of spaghetti and voila - garlic pasta

add any herbs that you have lying around

mybabysinthegarden · 19/02/2008 17:48

We've got mice bread too. Or maybe it's just dh been at it. Tomato and brie is really nice, just chuck in the brie cut into small chunks at the last minute.

jackamolsmum · 19/02/2008 17:48

Have you got a tin of tomatoes? if you have an onion/garlic fry that and any odd vegetables you have (inc frozen peas!) then add the tomatoes and cook them down with some olive oil- tom puree if you have any and any herbs and seasoning you can muster. Cheese is a bonus!

Or a tin of tuna and some mayo? (sweetcorn is a bonus here!) mix it all up for tuna sweetcorn pasta mmm

Well they are my emergency dinner concoctions anyway!

good luck

dividedself · 19/02/2008 17:48

Tuna pasta salad:

tomato sauce mixed with mayo, add some tuna and sweetcorn and tomatoes and serve on baked potato - I lurrrrrrrrrrve this

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/02/2008 17:49

could I use double cream, cheese and a bit of milk, plus seasoning (flour?) etc for a macaroni cheese sauce?
And then bake it with penne.
I can rustle up some breadcrumbs too and a bit of parmesan for the topping.

I really hate tined tune, and more so in pasta, sorry for those suggestions!

PurplePillow · 19/02/2008 17:50

Omg tuna pasta is to die for

It's a firm favourite in this house lol

dividedself · 19/02/2008 17:50

yeah but you need butter, right?! For the roux

dividedself · 19/02/2008 17:51

in my defense mine was a cold tuna suggestion! I'd bleurgh atwarm mayo

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 19/02/2008 17:55

I've just looked and we are having one of chopped toms and one small passata , tinned sweetcorn, a red onion, grated carrot, chopped pepper, pancetta cubes plus some balsamic ,herbs, pepper etc, on a mix of penne and hacked up linguine, Then a mix of mozzarella and cheddar on top. Baked for 10 mins or so.
Should be alright, so long as the mice bread is still fresh

mice bread...is that one to look out for on discarded shopping lists? A la 'nice ham'...

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 20/02/2008 11:25

I made what I said and it wasn't at all shitty.

DH said it was the best pasta I'd made in ages, and I thought so too. Maybe I shouldn't try so hard in future!

The mice bread was pretty good too.

chrissnow · 20/02/2008 11:41

I've gotta say what you had 'lying' around was what I've usually gor when we've just been shopping!!
