I have said she can but have no tomato puree. Will ketchup do for a base? Can't be bothered to use a big tim of tomatoes to simmer down as she isn't a big tomato fan anyway.

yes its fine
or just a spoonful of tinned toms will do

DualCycloneCod · 17/02/2008 15:51

i use passata

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 17/02/2008 15:52

Haven't got any passata.

I find the tubes are useful the first time you want puree but then they tend to go past their use by before I need them again and Asda has stopped doing the tiny tins of puree that were so useful.

I won't use the rest of the tin if I did open one so ketchup it is.

Thanks.

I use passatta or just tinned toms spread over base.

Got any fresh toms in? They'd be fine if you skin and mush 'em, and you can use exactly the amount you need.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 17/02/2008 16:14

No. I didn't buy any this week. She is lucky I have pizza bases in as don't fancy making dough.

NAB, I make a pizza sauce then freeze it (nicked the idea/recipe from Miaou)

Tin of tomatoes
Clove of garlic (or just onion if you prefer)
Pinch of herbs
Tomato puree

WHizz in a blender until smooth and spread on pizza base. Freeze the remainder.

Great idea! Thanks.

I always use red pesto instead of pizza sauce. It's much easier and I like it better because you don't get any "gloops" of tomato-paste stuff and it also adds more flavour. You just have to make sure not to spread it all the way to the edges of the base though, as it burns more easily than the tomato sauce.

Would green pesto work too? The ketchup was fine this time but I do have some green pesto in, I think.

I've not tried it sorry but if your daughter likes green pesto, I reckon it would be worth giving it a try.
