Can I make a cheese sauce without using milk?

DS is allergic to cows' milk but tolerates other dairy OK. I'd like to be able to make cheese sauce for pasta etc for him, but every recipe I've found has milk in it. If anyone has a magic recipe I'd be v grateful...

Can you do it with Soya milk?

HuwEdwards · 12/02/2008 21:35

what about goats milk?

AdamRomANTic · 12/02/2008 21:37

Could you make it like a cheese fondue (basically just cheese and wine)? It would be exceedingly cheesey though.

I have this problem (cow's milk makes me sick)

I use soya milk sometimes or just melt down Philadelphia if he can tolerate that

Neither is quite the same though, sadly!

Goats' milk still causes a reaction, though not as severe as cows'.

We are waiting for blood test results on soya allergy (amongst others), so have been told to avoid it for the moment.

I wonder if there is some way I could use fromage frais or something?

I am allergic to cows milk, and to start with I was told I could tolerate cheese (atho now it seems not after reacting recently). anyhoo.......not as yet found anything to take the place of cheese sauce so am just going without completely.

sorry not more help, but I really think you would be lucky to find an alternative.

soy or rice milk

recipe for white sauce here

Ah... rice milk! Why didn't I think of that?

It's what I have on cereal myself (not allergic to cows' milk but just think it's foul). It does have a bit of salt in but I guess that's not too much of a big deal now DS is almost 12mo?
