Have just shoved the roasties in the oven. Something made me chech the paper from the lard that I had thrown away. Thought it smelt different when the potatoes startes sizzling in the fat. It says Best Before Nov 07. Will it be OK. Looked fine, anyone any idea?

it should be fine. it is hard for lard to go off. it goes rancid when it does and once it is heated up would smell dreadful.

It can go off yes, any fat can go rancid.

It didn't smell rancid, but there was obviously something about it that made me check. Just been sniffing the paper and it smells slightly like butter does when you have used half and then get the last bit out of the fridge and its near its end date. Sort of a bit stale (is it only me that smells everything?!)
