I'm going to make a few chocolate-spread-and-banana sandwiches for a two year old's birthday party. Obviously I've got to make them in advance, anyone know how long will it take the banana to go black and is there anyway I can stop this? Thanks.

do you know that these 2 year olds are going to eat them?
Is it worth it?

Do you ever know that a 2 year old will eat anything? Got to put something in the damn things, any suggestions for other fillings?

spread cheese, or marmite? Could be daring and try Jam (don't know if the parents would appreciate that but the kids would )

cucumber sandwiches?

(the banana will go yucky looking v quickly)

MrsBadger · 07/02/2008 21:48

squeeze of lemon will slow blackening

Thanks Marymoocow, spread cheese is already on the list, marmite not because other mums are worried about salt content. Jam is a thought though...

do jam and tell them tis handcooked organic rasperry compote

Bloody good idea! I'll do that. Got some of my mother's homemade from two christmasses ago. It'll be fine once I've scraped the mold of the top

Actually in my experience the sandwiches never get eaten anyway. I have in fact sometimes had parties for little ones without sandwiches at all, and no-one batted an eyelid ( that phrase looks really weird written down ). All i'm trying to say is don't get too hung up on them. Also don't think that a thin spread of marmite is that harmful - no more than the sugar in the jam anyway, but each to their own
