Baby Christmas meal

I really want to give DS something special on Christmas day. Has anyone got a nice christmas recipe suitable for a 7 month old baby?

Why not let him have your Christmas dinner but pureed? How mnay solid foods has he had so far?

Yes please, I want something special for my dd to. She can't have our christmas dinner pureed as the 1lb of salt my mother uses will be bad for the kidneys (not exaggerating abut the salt, sometimes I can barely eat it).

Thanks. I wondered about that. I have only given him fruit and veg so far but I was thinking that I might introduce Chicken and Turkey by then. He's my first and I don't have much contact with other Mums so I'm sort of making it up as I go along! When would you introduce meat?

dd had pureed Christmas lunch at 8 months. We made 2 versions - one with and one without sprouts (I thought they might be a bit strong for her) but she liked both versions.

You just have to make sure you only add a tiny amount of gravy or none at all (and maybe some of the water the veg was cooked in if it's a bit thick).

You could certainly introduce it by Christmas if you have given him a good variety of fruit and veg by then. My children were all younger than 7 months old when they first had meat, but it does depend on when you started weaning them.
Debbie: sorry to hear that. Could you ask your mum not to salt the food before you take out the baby's portion. I know how you feel as my mother salts food more than I do, but I take the attitude that the occasional salty meal won't harm.

dtm - can't you just boil up one of each bit of veg separately and then add a little meat/sauce/whatever? or use it as an excuse to persuade your mum to use less salt?

The other thing I have noticed is that when a baby first has a proper meal, ie one with veg and meat etc, they think they have arrived in heaven and eat loads. It can be hard to get them to eat plain pureed carrot again afterwards! But that is good really, because you are aiming to get them eating normal meals, aren't you?

Very true. I'll give it a go soon, I think. He seems very adaptable to anything. I read something that Gina Ford wrote about Meat sometimes causing problems if introduced early but I guess you can only try!

Don't know Gina Ford (my children must be too old) but it never caused my children any harm and I introduced ds1 to meat when he was just over 4 months old. Hope no-one shoots me down for saying that.

Last year ds was 5 1/2 mnths old and he has roast sweet potatoe and butternut squash pureed and he loved it .It tasted wonderful. I think turkey etc. May have made him windy!
Enjoy his first christmas

My 10m old far prefers eating the bits of a normal meal that we give her i.e. sausage, mash, veg & gravy without too much sausage or roast dinner with lots of veg, some of the gravy and not much meat (very few teeth so far). In general I would say that she eats far better when I have thought it through & cooked something that everyone can eat than if I do an "Annabel Karmel" & cook something especially for her. I will be pureeing up as many of the bits of the christmas lunch as I think I can get her to eat.

Our family will not be eating lunch until abut 2 pm which will be much too late for DD (she'll be 7 months) so I plan to give her lunch at about 10 and then finger food from the table when we eat (eg peice of turkey, potato, veg etc). When DS was 10 months he had a normal Christmas lunch chopped into finger food size pieces and ate it that way quite happily.
