Quick question - how important is baking powder?

making a fruit loaf thing, self-raising flour and fruit etc with milk soaked all-bran and it requires 1 teaspoon of baking powder but I threw it away in a mad nesting moment and forgot. in middle of cooking, can't be arsed to run out and take baby out in the rain. Will my fruit loaf be ok without it?

Do you have cream of tartar and bicarbinate of soda. Can mix to make baking powder

I also have an Albran loaf recipe with no baking powder
100 g Albran
125 g Caster sugar
200 g Mixed dried fruit (I lower this amount)
1/2 pt of milk ( half a pint)
100 g Self raising flour

Put albran, sugar and dried fruit in a bowl and mix them well together. Stir in milk and leave to stand for half an hour. Seive in the flour, mixing well and poor into a well greased loaf tin (2lb). Bake in a moderate oven for about 1 and 1/4 hours. 180 degrees c. Turn out of tin and allow to cool

No I did a massive cupboard clear out when i was pregnant/nesting and nothing like that in cupboard now, grrrrrrr.

Will just make it anyway without it then.

Thomcat,

I think it'll be a bit like a brick without the baking powder.
