Hi my little boy is 10 months and has just got a cold. the problem is that he wont drink his bedtime bottle and can only get about 1oz down him, this means that he his waking at 3am!!! for his morning bottle. Has anyone any advice on how to help him drink his milk while he's got this cold. I'm just worried that it will become a habit!!!.

my ds is 10 mths and we had exactly the same thing a few weeks ago; we had all had a bug and then he got a really bad cold. the only thing that cleared his stuffy nose was medised, but it really must have made him feel sickly; if we gave it him after bath and before bedtime bottle he would refuse to have any milk. if we got him to have most of his bottle, and then gave him the medised he would bring back the entire feed!! for several nights he went to bed with no milk, and then would wake hungry at 3-4am. we either gave him diluted milk, or got him to drink water before the milk. unfortunatly if they're hungry, then there is no point in them crying away when you know if they have a feed they will go back to sleep. fortunatly, once over the cold, his appetite gradually came back and he started having his bedtime milk again. he carried on for a few nights waking at 5ish hungry, but started giving him extra yoghurts in the day. at the moment he wakes at 6ish. basically we just tried to get him back to sleep with as little milk as possible.
hope he's soon better!

That's weird I gave him Medised too, but last night gave him nothing and he managed to drink 4oz's!!! you must be right about it making them feel sick.

He slepted abit better last night, and had to feed him at 4am so at least it's getting better.

It's just my luck as I'm having a night out this saturday and he just has to get a cold just before so I'll have nice black eyes!!!!

thanks

its strange isn't it, about the medised?? it suddenly struck me a few days into his cold that he was fine with his milk and food in the day( well bit less appetite), but came to bedtime milk and he'd seem to want it but be crying and couldn't drink it. so following night gave him no medicine before bottle and drank nearly all milk! only trouble is after the milk it made him gag and be sick. calpol and nurofen don't bother him like this at all, but then again the medised was great at drying the snotty nose up through the night. so, will only use this if desperate from now on!! hope he continues to pick up xx
