If you are going to be very inconvenienced by this decision please reply to the Twitter thread and tell Tesco what you use cornflour for in your kitchen:

Someone who works for Tesco has told me that senior staff have been told the reason is a supply issue.

Someone who has posted on Twitter has been in email communication with Tesco and been told it is not due to lack of customer demand but to a new supplier and change of packaging.

someone. Someone. 😂

I had already linked to the person on Twitter who has been in email communication with Tesco and had been told it is not due to lack of customer demand, but here is the link for you again:

Some random person on Twitter says something and you take as gospel. They don’t we post a screenshot of this supposed exchange they had with them

Five pages of absolute outrage for what was a communication error 🤣

A number of posters on Twitter who have family members with coeliac disease or gluten sensitivity will be pleased to hear the explanation.

Could they not have just bought a different brand from Tesco or gone to another shop??

Managinggenzoclock · 15/11/2022 20:56

This is very timely as I work with children and was going to pop out tomorrow to Tesco to make some ‘goop’ (cornflour, water and food colouring). Can’t believe they aren’t selling it, that’s ridiculous!
I use it for thickening stews etc too.

Do you really expect me to demand a screenshot as proof of her exchanges with Tesco?

I've just posted an update from the Tesco Twitter admin - is that not good enough for you?

"My apologies, I've read my support teams message incorrectly. There are just currently supplier issues going on with this at the moment. Stock levels should return to normal shortly."

Well, my Tesco looked it up and said they were no longer stocking it so 🤷‍♀️

As I mentioned, Waitrose do have some ((but not with the other flour)

ReedRite · 15/11/2022 21:03

Eh?!

But it's a kitchen staple! Anybody who does any sort of cooking other then heating up ready meals must use it from time to time. It's so useful for thickening things without adding gluten.

How do they expect people who are gluten free to thicken their food?

Did they get somebody who never cooks to make this decision?! It reminds me of the kind of decisions made about stock by the lovely man who runs our corner shop and has a veritable aladdin's cave in many respects, but whose decisions make it very clear that he isn't the one in the household who does the cooking. Like, you can go in there and find jerk seasoning, a tub of gentlemen's relish or a tin of smoked oysters. But can't find plain flour or marmalade or tomato puree. Nobody thinks about how one might go about putting together a bog-standard home cooked meal with useful stuff.

We order our entire week's shopping every week via Click & Collect for health reasons (one of us is medically vulnerable and the other has limited mobility).

We live in a village some distance from other supermarkets. Our village store is a Tesco Express.

The only other brand Tesco currently stock for online ordering for deliveries or for Click & Collect is Brown and Poulsons, which is currently displaying online as out of stock.

So no, some of us cannot easily go to another shop and there is currently no other brand available to order via Tesco.

Cornflour is something I can't imagine not having in, but as PP, I probably buy it every couple of years.

Same!

Also, for GF sauces

But…. It’s cornflour, it’s not medicine!

good enough for me to believe… what exactly?

Rice flour is the alternative, never buy cornflour, works better rice flour

You've made the telegraph, with yet another tale of what's going on from Tesco

Cornflour dissapears from supermarket shelves

Random789 · 15/11/2022 21:22

Cornflour is rank. Only acceptable place for it is inside Stretch Armstrong.

VanillaImpulse · 15/11/2022 21:23

Janes patisserie always recommends it for her NYC cookies

indignatio · 15/11/2022 21:23

Hopefully the delia effect works for this. Masterchef the professionals has just used cornflour for a tempura batter

GoodnightGentleBoris · 15/11/2022 21:13

But…. It’s cornflour, it’s not medicine!

It's a product that is a kitchen staple.

There are already dozens of products that can no longer be ordered online from Tesco like their 9 and 24 roll packs of own brand loo roll, their boxes of value tissues, their mint choc ices, certain cuts of fresh turkey, I would have been dammed annoyed if they had decided to discontinue cornflour.

Underthehills · 15/11/2022 21:29

They might regret that this winter when people discover how useful cornflour is for slow cookers 🤔

9 and 24 rolls of toilet roll were discontinued because they are winding the paper tighter on the rolls to save space, environmental benefits of can fit more on a lorry so less trips.
