Hi, I’d appreciate any help as I’m going round in circles.

I need a vegan, GF and low FODMAP recipe for tomorrow….. The FODMAP thing is mainly no onion or garlic.

Any recommendations?

What kind of recipe? Dinner, lunch, pudding…?

SheWoreYellow · 03/09/2022 16:27

I would google ‘vegan fodmap’ and look at rice dishes or aim to replace pasta with GF pasta. Obv check there is no flour etc in the recipe.

That might have been useful info……. Dinner/supper type thing. I have pudding sorted, a lemon cake.

If its for a guest, ask them to bring their own 😂

I’ve had a quick look but I’ve seen so many recipes I can’t think! Hoping someone could personally recommend something.

Lemon cake eggless and lemon juice just? Have heard that not all citrus fruit is vegan!

They did offer to be fair. The vegan is a new family member and the FODMAP/GF is my sister and I could do separate dishes but I’m trying to be inclusive.

Oh OP you will be very familiar with black beans at the end of this.

I’ll ask DD for recommendations but be aware that Fodmap is not great if you’re veggie or vegan so make sure you’re getting proper support from the dietician.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 03/09/2022 16:34

Oh x posted. Maybe not black beans then as she’s probably sick of them. 😀

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 03/09/2022 16:34

If pulses are okay, chickpea curry and rice could be good. With a bit of asafoetida to make up for the lack of alliums. Mushroom risotto, if it's not too much of a cliche. Traditional meat and two veg/steak and chips type meals but with a different protein. Gluten-free veggie pizza, skip the onions.

Er. What else… massive plate of chips? That fits almost every dietary restriction barring the no-nightshades crowd Grin

Thank you.

The FODMAP isn’t vegan or veggie - it’s just the perfect storm of awkward dietary needs!

I had thought of steak and chips, the steak being portobello mushrooms with a miso dressing.

And I’ve now read your messages properly and as the Fodmap isn’t vegan it might be easier to do a meat/fish dish which is Fodmap friendly . I found it much harder to cook Fodmap than you’d expect

ClumpingBambooIsALie · 03/09/2022 16:38

I'm guessing you already know you need to be careful with miso and gluten.

Oh, and the low-carb/low-GIers I suppose.

Sometimes dietary needs and preferences are just incompatible, and there's no shame in admitting defeat when it comes to an "inclusive" meal, and subbing parts of it for some people.

No but another guest is vegan.

If your sister is in the first phases of low fodmap, there's a lot she has to exclude. Or exclude because of how it's cooked or the amount in the dish.

If she's not, then I would send the recipe over to get her to check.

As others have said, I'd Google 'vegan low fodmap' but that is more challenging because a lot of vegan dishes rely on lentils/beans etc which either have to be eliminated or used in very small quantities for fodmap.

You can do a noodle stir fry with rice noodles and nuts (cashews in soy sauce is nice, just make sure the soy sauce is the one which doesn't contain wheat).

If you feel it's not enough, you can add a small dish or two. Grilled aubergines or mushrooms, edamame, or veg spring rolls come to mind.

Tacos? With corn tortillas?

Clymene · 03/09/2022 16:45

Plan what you're going to cook without the vegan. Then adapt one bit for the vegan. So steak and chips - give them vegan a portobello mushroom instead of steak. The rest of you can still have steak.

I’m scared to ask but how is a lemon not vegan? Can’t cope with anything else of think about!

I did think about this but I’m trying to not do that if I can help it.

Lots of different things could be a good idea. Thanks.
