Coleslaw variations

Made coleslaw today for the first time ever
Shredded red cabbage, white cabbage, carrots, spring onions and mixed with mayonnaise.

Was just wondering what variations you might have?

Thanks

sounds lovely. Celeriac really nice, and I use ordinary onions - like the long strands.

ChaCha · 22/01/2008 15:38

Had never thought of that, would you use the celeriac instead of the cabbages?

you could add fruit

herbs and/or garlic

celeriac as above either with or without cabbage

have a look on the supermarket shelves for some ideas

Littlemisssensible does a gorgeous one, I think with sultanas and a bit of orange juice

I add chopped apple, dried apricots and cashews. Also make dressing with half mayo, half yoghurt and a squirt of lemon juice.
Must try red cabbage though, that sounds nice.

You could add sultanas or apple to make it a bit fruity.

Add dill to make a "Florida coleslaw".

I usually add a splash of wine vinegar and a teaspoon of mustard too - gives it a bit more punch than just mayonnaise.

grated courgette works well too

I always put a couple of drops of tabasco sauce in it. Always get comments about "the bite"! Lovely!

ChaCha · 22/01/2008 16:06

the apple sounds good as does the half may, half yoghurt - would never have thought of that.

Tabasco...hmmm!
