Is there anyone who DOESN'T love their air fryer?

Just that really. They're not cheap and although I'm very interested in the idea, I wonder if I'm going to be disappointed.
If you didn't like yours, why not?

It wasn't big enough
Never did potato well

Got rid after a month

veneeroftheyear · 30/08/2022 21:02

Interesting. Not big enough for a family? Which one did you have?

Not me...bloody love mine! I've got the Ninja AF300 and it's plenty big enough. Not sure what 'potatoes' a previous OP is referring to, but honestly, I can't fault mine! Best chips, roast, baked/jackets I've ever had (in fact, when my granddaughter comes to visit, she BEGS me to make 'Nanny's Chips' as she thinks I do something magical 🤣)

LaPufalina · 30/08/2022 21:12

Love mine! Get in from a run and it cooks bacon unsupervised whilst I shower!

NyanBinaryJohn · 30/08/2022 21:12

Me. MIL loves the bloody thing. Food doesn't come out as nicely in my experience.

Floralnomad · 30/08/2022 21:14

i was given a Ninja foodie a couple of christmases ago , you couldn’t fit a normal sized pizza base in it and it beeped really loudly which upset my dog . I only used it a handful of times and gave it to my sister . I love my halogen oven and use it daily .

Minimalme · 30/08/2022 21:14

I utterly loathed mine - went all in with a Food Ninja, the bigger one.

So very complicated, appalling result and a fucking faff on to clean.

I even made MiL try it and she couldn't get with it either.

Watching as well. Everyone who raves always seems to talk about bacon (which I rarely eat) and oven chips. I want to know if it can cook casseroles and roast dinners for a family of four.

DeadButDelicious · 30/08/2022 21:21

I love mine, everything I've made in it has come out well. Home made potato wedges that usually take 45 minutes in the big oven take 25 in the air fryer and they come out lovely and crispy. It's made me excited about cooking. Which is a big thing for me as cooking has always been something I did because I had too.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/08/2022 21:24

Absolutely love mine but you need to get a big one. The small ones are very, very limiting. I use mine at least 4 days a week

I've just cooked roast beef, roast potatoes and cauliflower cheese in mine (a Ninja AF400 which has two baskets) for four this evening.

roast beef goes in for 40mins on 'roast' meanwhile I'm peeling and par boiling the potatoes. once boiled the potatoes are tossed in cornflour, celery salt and oil so they are coated.

Roast beef comes out and I tip the juices out into a cup for gravy. the beef gets covered in foil and a tea towel to rest, potatoes go in on 'air fry' split across the two baskets for about 15 mins. Meanwhile I'm making the cheese sauce for the cauliflower cheese and assembling it in a silicon dish thing I have that fits in the air fry baskets.

potatoes from one basket come out and join the ones in the other basket and the cauliflower cheese dish goes in. Potatoes and cauliflower cheese get another 10 mins while I boil carrots/other veg.

Roast dinner in just over an hour.

I do casseroles and stuff in them as well in pie tins.

my favourite is toasted cheese sandwiches though.

This

We cook lots from scratch and only have an oven chip type tea once a week ... wondering how much use we'd get from an AF for family of 3.

Slightly different topic but did a Gusto tra last week that involved using the oven for meat element of meal and instructions for veg were to steam in foil on other shelf. Felt much better using the oven.

But watching these AF threads with interest Grin

Off to pastabests house for tea!

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy · 30/08/2022 21:34

Ok, that sounds interesting @pastabest Sounds like it needs you us to be very organised and creative at first and to establish new ways of cooking to get used to it.

Polimolly · 30/08/2022 21:43

Best kitchen device I ever bought. I only cook for one and I use it at least 5 times a week

Yes. Definitely sounds like a lot to learn. I'm a pretty organised cook so don't mind that, but I guess it depends on what kind of food you like.

I cook a whole chicken in mine once a week. I've also done other roasts and they come out perfectly.

Battlecat98 · 30/08/2022 22:27

Love mine. Not ninja but it's big. Did a roast in it this evening, so quick. Love chips in it, so crispy, agree with the bacon comments. Cooked cakes, cinnamon rolls, heated bread/naan. Just looking for some dishes to put in it. Been told you can do porridge to.
Must try the cheese toasties everyone raves about them. I use it pretty much every day.

amarante · 30/08/2022 22:29

Has anyone done a casserole? Thank you

Thejoyfulstar · 30/08/2022 22:30

It's OK.

UWhatNow · 30/08/2022 22:36

I hate mine but my DS bought it for me and is very hurt that I don’t use it. The settings are pure guesswork. You can only cook a handful of stuff and have to keep turning it which is a bloody faff. Even then, the top of anything you cook is cremated and the bottom is still slop. And even then the optimal food for an air fryer is just crappy oven chips!

Ugh I really really hate it.

RoutineLow · 30/08/2022 22:37

I borrowed one from a friend and didn't understand the fuss at all. Admittedly it was a cheap one so I do wonder if a £££ Ninja would be better. But based on my experience I don't want to risk wasting the cash.

Paddingtonthebear · 30/08/2022 22:39

We used ours twice and then sold it on. We didn’t like the slow cooker either so perhaps it’s just us

I'm on the fence. It cooks fine.. but the whole 'basket' thing gets on my nerves when trying to get things out that you can't just toss out like chips!
