Full fat cows milk

Dd is now almost 13 months and has been drinking formula happily since 6 months old. A few weeks before her 1st birthday, I started mixing her bottles with Rachels Dairy organic full fat milk. Her sleeping became a bit disturbed and so I switched back to formula for the last bottle and used cows milk during the day. The other day, I used cows milk again for last bottle and she woke up crying 2 hours after going to bed - unconsoleable and I gave a few ounces of formula and some camomile drops and she went back to sleep for the night. I'm just wondering whether anyone else has had this? Is it just a coincidence or what? I also do think she's teeting a lot at the moment.

It could be a coincidence or it might be a problem with the milk. My DD was similar after eating or drinking anything with the slightest amount of milk in but she had a reaction exactly 3 1/2 hours after rather than 2. She also had other symptoms such as constipation and no weight gain which aren't the classic milk intolerance symptoms. She's been milk free ever since and there was a noticable difference immediately. I think trial and error is the only way to rule it out. Is she ok with yoghurts, cheese and other dairy products? DD had been more or less tolerating cheese, margarine and chocolate to a certain extent, but once she went milk free then any tiny amount of milk set her off. It's strange that DD has been ok with a (presumably) cow's milk based formula for so long though.

I'm sorry but I giggle everytime I read your name. What made you choose it?

OuiOui · 05/11/2002 15:59

the name stems back to my time in France - it's the way my real name is pronounced sounds like the slang for yes in French. Rather unflatteringly, it's the name of Noddy in France.

Hi OuiOui - When my ds was a year I tried him on a little cows milk in his eggs and he had terrible gas about 1 hr later. I wasnt sure if it was the milk so I tried it again in his cereal and the same thing happened again. I took him to the doc and was told he was probally lactose intolerant so I put him on lactose free milk (same taste as reg) and have had no problems since. This thing runs on my side of the family.

Slightly off topic. I've read that you're not meant to give milk with protein as it prevents the absorption of iron. Is this true for yoghurt and fromage frais as well?
