Quick recipe for eggy bread

Ok, I'm unashamedly going to try eggy bread on ds - as recommended on Mums the word this morning (sucking up to J and C here!). But, is there more to it than dunking the bread in egg and frying it? I distinctly heard the words 'a little butter' - was that in the frying pan? And how long does it cook for? Feeling very unconfident in the kitchen! And not at all sure ds will eat it...but I can only try!

I beat up a few eggs with some seasoning as if making an omelette, then heat a little olive oil in the frying pan, dunk bread in egg mixture (pour egg mix onto a dining plate first) then fry until golden brown. Delicious. Esp with brown sauce.

as she said but with lemon juice and sugar (yum)

ok not for DS maybe, and definitely not for dieating me

hoxtonchick · 26/11/2004 17:50

oh, & i was just agonising about what to give ds for tea. hooray!

CarrieG · 26/11/2004 17:53

Or make with cheese sandwiches - YUM.

I add a little milk to the eggs & a bit of black pepper & oregano/basil/whatever.

Trick (to prevent sticking) is to get frying pan REALLY hot, then leave on first side till brown, turn & do other side.

You shouldn't then need to call ds to table - he'll hear the smoke alarm go off & come running!

my girls like eggy bread covered with cinnamon sugar. A little milk mixed in with the egg mixture. I agree about the smoke alarm

THANK YOU! Ds is tucking into eggy bread and chocolate spread - he has never eaten egg in his life! And thank you Justine and Carrie for the idea!

oooh what a coincidence, I introduced my dds to eggy bread this lunchtime! They were v. excited particularly as we used eggs from our own hens (first "crop"!). Brought back happy memories of eating it as a child.
