Hello. I've bought tofu and i was enjoying eating it straight from the fridge as it was or mixing with sweet corn, sometimes mixing tofu with nuts and have it as a snack. I was wondering whether anyone had any ideas for cooking with tofu. Ta.

Scrambled tofu is good- crumble it all up fry off an onion add in the tofu and a bit of cumin, some soy sauce and perhaps even some peas, great on toast

I second the scrambled tofu - we often have it for breakfast on toast.

Also you could cube it, marinade it in ginger, sweet chilli, loads of garlic and loads of soy sauce for 20 mins or whatever you have time for, and then fry in a wok by itself, tip it out, stir fry some veg and then add back in at the end. Could serve with rice or noodles.

Get some firm silken tofu and blitz it well in a processor, then add in maple syrup and cocoa powder for a high protein pudding!

Could also bake it withdifferent herbs and spices, and use it in place of eggs and dairy for cakes.

Wonderful ideas, thank you. May i please ask for proportions in the marinade?

Yes, scramble it (mash with turmeric, tamari and black pepper), fry it in chunks (I usually add tamari) or put it in vegetable pies.
Or fry it in strips (with or without tamari!) and put in sandwiches.

Thank you for brilliant ideas.

I bought some tofu on the weekend to try it. Had it stir fried on Saturday lunchtime. But all night Saturday and all day sunday had terrible stomach cramps. I know it was the tofu because it has happened before when I ate it. Is this normal or am I allergic or something?
Please help, cos it was yummy, but not worth the after effects.
x

Tofu is made from soya so may be you react to soya like this. it's difficult to know but if you think you have it second time, probably better to avoid it. It's not so essential anyway. I just liked it but may be i should be also a bit more careful as i was eating rather a lot of it.

Oh no, I don't want to put anybody off because I was gutted about it that's all!!
You go ahead and eat lots of it. I'll have to stick to quorn instead!

Oh, it's okay, I'll have it again some time. How about tahini? Did you like it?

Woops, sorry! I am afraid this is a very rough estimate seeing as I just throw it all together according to the amount of tofu. For a 400g block, I use about 50-100 mls soy sauce (you can get low salt), about 1 tsp finely grated ginger, 2-3 crushed garlic cloves (but I like loads!) and a tbs of sweet chilli sauce.

You can try this out and just adjust it according to how you like it - good luck!

Thank you, shrooms.
