I know with beef steak etc that its ok to use after sell by date (or so a butcher friend once told me, I dont cook beef much!), is mince the same?

And will it be okay for dc to eat or safer just for me and dp?

if it looks and smells ok - should be fine

smell it, trust your eyes and nose

And cook very thoroughly - like if your making spag bol have it simmering for an hour plus (tastes better anyway)

I would say don't risk it - especially if your dc are small and/or you are pregnant. I went on a food hygiene course through work and although it is sometimes obvious by smell if something is off, sometimes it will smell fine but still be unsafe.

I take no risks with meat, but obviously it's up to you. I'm far more lax with yogurts etc btw.

So general consensus is yes if it looks and smells ok but maybe not for dc? I would def throw out chicken or pork passed its use by date but think beef is different?
