We tend to buy these as they have such a lovely flavour , BUT have been thinking alot about how they may be farmed?

i always buy kosher

IIRC they aren't intensively farmed etc but would have to do some research

I think Kosher chickens are normally kept in similar conditions to free range chickens. Their food may be GM type. You can buy organic Kosher chicken.

lulumama · 14/01/2008 12:38

asked my mum and dad about this yesterday, the chickens my mum gets are local, and due to the laws of kashrut are incredibly well inspected before sale..ill or manky bird just wouldn't be sold, especially glatt kosher birds. the farms are inspected by the beth din regularly i think.

RubySlippers · 14/01/2008 12:53

i tell you for the price of a kosher chicken i would expect them to get daily massages and foot rubs!

lulu - no salmonella in koser chicks IIRC

lulumama · 14/01/2008 12:57

also kosher meat cannot contain any MRM or spinal cord, or any part of the lungs , heart or brain...

frankie3 · 14/01/2008 13:50

Do you buy fresh or frozen? Where do you buy yours from?

Iklboo · 14/01/2008 13:51

The Beth DIn usually inspect the farms and the slaughter houses to make sure they are of required standard

lulumama · 14/01/2008 13:52

i don;t, as no kosher butchers near me, but waitrose sell frozen kosher ones, near me. also, there are lots of independent kosher butchers in manchester, leeds, london etc..who sell fresh and frozen

Interesting you say they are similar free range , as I have been googling and found this and Im not really surefood blog

I buy fresh , but pre packaged in a kosher in a local supermarket.

We're not kosher, but I cant do my chicken soup withought a kosher chicken , it seems wrong somehow !!

and my mil is kosher, so we buy it for her when she comes here. Athough yes, as I dont have a kosher kitchen it seems silly!

and me a nice jewish girl too lol
