What did you cook for lunch today and was it influenced by HFW or Jamie Oliver?

We had (free range) roast chicken, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, sprouts, carrots, stuffing, gravy followed by homemade (by my mum) christmas pudding with homemade (by me) vanilla ice cream, made with free range (from our garden) eggs.

Influenced by HFW and JO? A little. After watching them cooking lovely roast chicken I definitely felt like having it today. We always buy free range anyway. Veggies were being finished off from Christmas, so was a 'use up what is in the fridge' meal.

I'm going to try HFW's risotto this week as well, try and live more cheaply on free range!

We had pasta today but had our roast last night - it was a carrot, lentil and cashew nut one. I didn;t ask if the cashew nuts had been outdoor reared

Ginge you need to chuck in onion carrot and celery if you have it. Herbs such as thyme or bayleaf. I usually chuck in any spare veg from the Sunday roast as well

Iota · 13/01/2008 18:56

We ate at Wagamamas, so no roast for me today

TellusMater · 13/01/2008 18:56

Also had fancy chicken. Bought it before all the hoohah. Didn't watch the programmes. DH always v. strict about chicken though.

Phew! Thanks Iota, have just added onion, carrot, celery and herbs, it has about another 2 hours to simmer according to tortoiseshell

Iota · 13/01/2008 19:14

I'm sure it will be lovely (in fact I'm sure it would have been fine with just chicken, but the veg does add a depth to the flavour)

Gingerbear - I put in an onion, couple of carrots, peppercorns, celery seeds, fresh thyme, dried parsley, 2 bay leaves.

we had roast free range chicken - totally because of HFW - I have been thinking about roast chicken all week!!

We usually get our meat from the butchers (he stocks free range meat) but today the chicken was from Waitrose

We had soup! It was scrummy. (We had beef on Saturday.)

I thought dh would bring a chicken back from Tescos on Sat, but he said he thought I didn't want one, so didn't.

He does all the shopping, so it's out of my hands. He asked me what sort of eggs we get, and I said I thought we got 'barn eggs'.
He told me we've had free range eggs for the past ten years

We used to occasionally get eggs from friends who had chickens of their own. And Tescos 'free range' eggs are nothing like those.

We had mince, onions & carrots. Influenced by the fact that I bought no roast yesterday & we want to use the meat from the freezer!

mylittleponey · 13/01/2008 22:38

had asparagus soup from the jamie oliver book - a great recipe.

Norfolkbumpkin · 13/01/2008 23:08

We had a free range chicken bought from a local farmers market yesterday. There were 2 farmers markets on in our area this weekend and I suspect the vendors were rubbing their hands together with glee at the prospect of all those extra punters wanting a slice of the action after this weeks' t.v. programmes. I too am going to make a stock tommorrow with the carcase. According to the River Cottage meat book the stock should simmer on a very low heat for 3 hours. 3 hours!!??

MrsFlora · 13/01/2008 23:20

We had a "fishy" lunch.

Seabass roasted in over with spuds and lemons.

Clams

Tomatoes, onions and oregano sauce.

Prawns cooked in over.

Chickens are overrated IMO!

PavlovtheCat · 13/01/2008 23:23

Scrambled eggs with veggies mixed in. Not a consideration for JO or HFW, even though we have a HFW book. Just so happened that our eggs are woodland free range but that was coincidental as we have always bought FR.

Tinker · 13/01/2008 23:23

Had roast beef. It was influenced by programme since our usual free range chickens were sold out!
