Binder (?) for breadcrumbs - alternative to egg?

I am lovingly attempting, for the first time, to make some fish cakes/croquette type things but I just realised that I have no eggs.

(MILs parting gift, after a month long stay, was to eat all the eggs for lunch - she seems to have this idea that she needs to finish up all the food in the fridge at the end of her visits Perhaps she thinks she has been staying in a holiday chalet??)

Anyway, is there an alternative to egg for the sticking-on-of-the-breadcrumbs?

I use melted marg... this always works for us.. my son is allergic to eggs...

So, roll the little dollops in melted butter/marge then in breadcrumbs?

Adn the breadcrumbs will stick?

I always made the fishcakes quite moist but not soggy then rolled them in the breadcrumbs...
good luck...
