What time is ideal dinner time?

After reading a article on the Dailymail I was curious as to other peoples dinner times. We have dinner at 5/5:30 as my son is always hungry after school.

OP posts:
Chickenwing2 · 16/04/2022 11:56

6-6.30 when at home

For some reason if eating dinner out I always book for 7pm

User48751490 · 16/04/2022 11:57

4pm.

dementedpixie · 16/04/2022 11:57

Closer to 7.30/8pm or sometimes later depending on rugby or football training

Vsirbdo · 16/04/2022 11:57

7.30 for me; unfortunately that’s when my children go to bed so it’s usually much later. I can’t eat at 5pm when they eat.

User48751490 · 16/04/2022 11:58

They are hungry after school so we eat around 4pm each day together. DH finishes work at 3pm (same time as school finishing).

Supper around 6pm for youngest ones, older ones get something around 7pm. Toast, bagels, yoghurt etc.

Alwayspaintyournails · 16/04/2022 11:58

There is no ideal time, it will vary from person to person.

We eat at 7.30ish most nights. DD has a snack after school to keep her going.

If we are going out it tends to be a 7.30pm reservation so eat around 8pm.

Fairislefandango · 16/04/2022 12:30

7pm ish unless we have a reason to eat earlier (evening clubs/activities etc). My dc are teens. We ate a bit earlier when they were very small. Anything before 6pm feels not like dinner time to me, and I don't like eating after 8 as I feel like I need lots of digestion time before bed (I go to bed fairly early).

Comedycook · 16/04/2022 12:32

The dc eat about 4.30/5pm...dh and I eat at about 9pm

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 16/04/2022 12:32

Around 7-8pm.

Dibdobdoo · 16/04/2022 12:33

I misread your post OP, I thought you were furious about other peoples dinner times. I read on, intrigued about how it could be bothering you so much Grin

CarryonCovid · 16/04/2022 12:37

For me 6:30pm, for DH 8, we compromise on 7-7:30. As others say before 6 doesn't feel like dinner and after 8:30 I wouldn't bother.

PickAChew · 16/04/2022 12:38

I prefer closer to 7 but it was about 5:30, when the boys were younger.

BarryKentPoet · 16/04/2022 12:44

6pm works for us, when we are all in from work/school and hungry.

EileenGC · 16/04/2022 12:48

Around 8:30pm is my preferred time.

I often work evenings and start eating dinner at 11pm, which I don’t really like as it’s too close to bedtime.

SpringGeraniums · 16/04/2022 12:51

We eat about 5.30. That means from 6 pm I can sort out the kitchen and start on homework before some downtime before bed around 9 pm.

Daphnedot · 16/04/2022 12:53

5pm. I don't like eating anything in the evenings at all.

Qwill · 16/04/2022 12:55

Depends how old you are!! 17.30-18.30 for the children, 20.30-21.00 for the adults!

theDudesmummy · 16/04/2022 12:57

We eat late, about 9.30, often 10. DS 13 usually eats with us on weekend nights and at about 8.30 on school nights. (He has an afternoon snack if he wants it when he gets home from school). I know this is not the norm for most people but it works for us.

JimMorrisonsleathertrousers · 16/04/2022 20:02

We all eat together at 5-5:30. There's no way I would want to cook again after the kids go to bed. There's also no way I could wait until 9pm!

Livpool · 16/04/2022 20:56

5:30 - 6

irregularegular · 16/04/2022 20:57

7-8pm. They are all over 18 though. Used to be more 6-7pm. Never really been earlier (at least not since they were tiny) as I've always worked and we've always eaten together.

Keladrythesaviour · 16/04/2022 21:02

7.30-8, but happy to do anything as late as 9.
Definitely no earlier! We've got Italian blood though...
My in laws eat at about 5.30 and I hate it. I think it's often either cultural or upbringing. Traditionally those of the working class would eat earlier I think, as they were hungry after a full day at work whereas middle and upper classes would eat later as they'd had more substantial middle of the day meals and less manual labour.

RewildingAmbridge · 16/04/2022 21:04

Ideally 7:30-8 but we either eat at 5:30 with DS or days he's had dinner at nursery we eat after he goes to bed at 7/7:30 so by the time we've done a few bits and pieces and cooked it's usually 8:30 and sometimes a little later

Took · 16/04/2022 21:05

8.30pm

RewildingAmbridge · 16/04/2022 21:05

Having said that dinner isn't even cooking yet tonight!
