Just bought first tripp trapp for 18mnth ds. Great except one thing. WHY DONT THEY MAKE THE CUSION WIPEABLE?!?!?

Sooo stupid! My ds is loving tomato based sauces and loves feeding himself so makes a mess! He really needs the cushion as it is too slippery for his little bum without and v hard! How do any of you solve this prob? CAnt put a carrier over it as that makes it too slippy aswell. Dont want to be washing it every single day as it will be a nightmare. What can i do??!

I just sponged it off or wiped it after meals and popped it in the washing machine when I remembered (every couple of weeks?)

Does he have a rubber bib with a catcher? I found they caught most things.

trixymalixy · 08/01/2008 20:44

I gave up on the cushions in the end. It was such a hassle getting them off to wash. It is a totally stupid design.

he wont wear those bibs BS. They seem to get in the way.. Wont wear any plasticky bibs.

The covers on ours are sponged down after meals and washed every fortnight or so, not a problem.

Could you sit him on a folded up teatowel or similar? Won't be aesthetically (?sp) pleasing but comfier.

We always used the cushion with ds1, when ds2 came along he seemed more, err, robust and just sat in his tripptrapp from the start without a cushion. Poor thing, very neglected

mad4mybaby · 08/01/2008 20:53

could give the towel a try. You can tell a man designed it!

agree

I think that about the bits of my washing machine I can't get at to clean (not that I'm anal about it or anything )

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 08/01/2008 21:03

will he let you tie a muslin round his neck? Most foods seem to stick to those quite nicely

Piffle · 08/01/2008 21:09

what age is he?
Ds2 has never had bottom cushion in (not advised with babyset as makes eat too shallow) and the nappy cushions their bottom anyway
He happily bumps up and down without it
or buy two sets

he is 18 months. I just think it v hard wood and need something on the seat bit as it just too slippy. He always on the go and want it to be as comfy as poss to encourage him to sit in it!

Just try him with the plain chair and see how he gets on! Make sure you have the footrest high enough just like the instructions, he should be comfortable.

My DS was about 20 mths when we got his chair and he was just really excited to have a big boy chair.

What we DID do was harness him into it to start with. We had some mothercare baby reins that came with some extra short loops to replace the long strap, and looped them around the side pieces below the upper rail. The reins were on backwards so they clipped at the front like a front fasten bra! Technically a 4 point rather than 5 point harness but he never did slip out of the bottom. Can't remember when we took the reins off but it was when he could be trusted to sit still and stay at the table.

If I can find them, I'll post you them if you like.

GS, thats so kind of you to offer!! I have some reins that have some sort of extra bit somewhere.. I will try to work out if they will work first and let you knw. Dont want to fork out £20 on the reins they sell!

May sound obvious but you don't have to take chair apart to fasten them on. Unsnap the short strap, wrap it round the chair side, pass the clip through the stitched loop and re-attach to reins.

Only say this due to recent threads about assembling/disassembling tripp trapps! I'm sure you have half a brain .
