Quick question re Delia's plum pudding ...

... she says to 'steam' it in a steamer for 8 hrs for a 2lb pudding. I would usually simply boil my pudding in a saucepan (lid won't fit on steamer when pudding basin is in it). Should I give it the full 8 hrs ... I have a vague recollection last year of only giving it 5-6 hrs on advice of my mother and aunt and, let's just say it needed a bit more time. Do you reckon the full 8 hrs or a little less? Anyone done it this way instead of in a steamer?

Thanks

Goodness, would never have thought of that in a million years but it sounds like a great idea - thanks!!!!

Can't understand why she wants it steamed as opposed to boiled though as most p puddings are just boiled. Oh well.
