What time do you have dinner?

At the moment I eat 'tea' with DS (3) at 5 but I am going to try and put it back to 6. Problem is then he isn't hungry for supper. Hardly a big dilemma I know, but humour me.

(Also embarressed myself just before xmas going out for 'dinner' with a bunch of very nice but very middle class people and had to admit I was starving my half 6 and needed to eat before I fainted! )

(I also had one more beer than everyone else. Disaster!)

Have snack at 4 and eat at 6.30 with no supper?

MrsWeasley · 03/01/2008 19:53

Well it really depends on what we are doing and how starving we are.

DH doesnt get in until 7.30 so we (DH & I) usually eat after that but the DC eat around 5 o'clock (6pm if they have had a late lunch) But it is not set in stone and if they are starving will bring it forward to 4.30. likewise if they have a snack after school I may decide to eat at 6pm.

Mine dont usually have supper. unless a very early Teatime has been had.

oggsfrog · 03/01/2008 19:59

At dinnertime of course... when do you have yours? At breakfast?

Tutter · 03/01/2008 20:01

dinner 7:30 to 8ish normally

sometimes have a 5:00 tea with the boys at weekends

bozza · 03/01/2008 20:01

We actually do eat about 6ish but have never bothered with supper for the DC.

I have to do dinner at at least 5 o clock or the sounds of 'I'm hungry mummy' would drive me mad. They have a 'pudding' or supper I guess, once they are out of bath and in the pjs. They still say they are hungry after that ...

FlorenceFarkingNightingale · 03/01/2008 22:20

6 o clock here, so that I can eat with dd.

ivykaty44 · 03/01/2008 22:22

Cheese gives you strange dreams - not a good food for supper.

We have dinner at about 6.30/7pm

onepieceoflollipop · 03/01/2008 22:24

dd1 (3.11yrs) eats around 5pm. If I am organised and/or hungry we may eat with her and have "supper" later. Something nutritious like chocolate and a glass of wine fruit or lettuce.

Otherwise we collapse when the dds are in bed and have the supper first (the wine part) and dinner around 8pm

Monkeytrousers · 03/01/2008 22:25

I will eat regardless of whethet it is adults eating tiem ot not - so best to try t sybcronise!

Alsom I am trying to inject some structure to the day, whic isn;t easy with a self emplyed partner who grew up in a barn!!!

DS has his about 5, then goes to bed by 6.30, DH and I have ours about 8 when he's home from work.

Seona1973 · 03/01/2008 22:34

the kids have dinner at 5ish - I eat with dh at 8ish. The kids dont have supper but ds (15 months) has a cup of milk before bed

ADDICTEDtosayingHAAAAAAAPYxmas · 03/01/2008 22:39

really depends - anytime between 4:30 and 7!!

islandofsodor · 03/01/2008 22:48

Dinner is at 12.30pm-1.00pm.

Tea is around 5-6pm for the children but often I eat with dh (he teaches until 7pm) around 7.30pm-8.00pm.

nuttynoel · 03/01/2008 22:54

DCs have a snack directly after school so that all of us eat together (at table) around 6.10pm when dh gets in.
We're probably eating a load of unhealthy old crap but we're doing it together! (Joke, people).
DS(13) will have an apple about eightish.
DD(6), a picky eater and only weighs 2st11 is carefully watched at dinner as she may need a top-up marmite sandwich before bedtime.
Both children still on a filling, milky drink at bedtime. By which time I'm ready for a filling, alcoholly drink.

McDreamy · 03/01/2008 22:56

5pm for the children. If DH and I eat sepeately from the children (usually when he is on call) then we will eat at about 7.30-8pm but the children still at 5pm.

noddyholder · 03/01/2008 22:57

We all eat together at 7ish.But it depends where you come from.I was brought up in northern ireland and supper there was milk and biscuits before bed whereas here it is yummy wors for dinner Dinner was at lunchtime and tea was at 5.30 Bloody confusing

nodder · 03/01/2008 23:10

We all eat together at 4.30pm. DH works nights and there fore we eat as soon as I get in from work (he will have picked up ds and dd has come home on the bus) The kids will have supper before bed, which would be a piece of fruit, a biscuit and a milky drink.

nodder · 03/01/2008 23:12

I suppose it is no different to having a snack as soon as you come in and Dinner later.

exbatt · 04/01/2008 10:10

We all eat together at 5 p.m. Occasionally at 5.30 (e.g. swimming night). Always have done, even before we had the children. On the odd occasion my husband isn't in at 5, the rest of us eat together and he has his when he gets in. It feels better that the majority of us eat together.

Sometimes we have supper, which is fruit or perhaps some bread and butter or couple of cream crackers.
