Can you freeze cheese?

Thinking of hardish cheeses like cheddar, edam etc. Seem to have a glut from Christmas cheeseboard selections which are coming to their useby date (unopened). Do I really need to be worrying about that date anyway?

TIA

Yes but check the cheese first- was a bit to have to bin some of my M&S cheese as when i opened it today was all yuck and manky muldy.

It freezes well. You can grate it too and then freeze it: ideal for sauces and pizza toppings.

Peachy - if it was still in date, take it back to M&S. They will exchange or refund happily on food (used to work there).

Chipbutty - fab idea about grating before freezing. Will do that as we're always using grated cheese.
