quick advice needed - prawns for 2 year old

When is it OK to introduce prawns into a child's diet? - I read somewhere that the longer you wait the better - but that might just be peanuts. Anyway I'm planning fish pie tonight and dd who has just turned 2 hasn't had prawns before - any info on whether it's a good idea?

thanks

If there's no history of seafood allergy in the family, go for it (gave prawn the other night to yowling dd, 15 months, who scoffed it in 10 secs flat )

sounds fine to me (but i am quite lax about these things....)

Sounding good so far - she has a little bit of eczema (v mild) and her dad gets hay fever but no seafood allergy in the family as far as I know.

Mine eat prawns. DS had a little bit of eczema when little, but doesn't have any reactions to prawns.

DD2 stuffed herself on seafood last summer. Aged about a year.

Suzanne Olivier ("What should I feed my baby") who is pretty cautious on this front has shellfish down as ok between 9-14 months. But she does note that it's one of the foods that can be associated with a true food allergy (not a food intolerance). So one to be done with a bit of caution - i.e. unlikely to be a problem, but just be alert.

Go for it, both mine were fine on prawns from an early age. Both are eczema-ie, especially ds2 and it doesnt affect it. No-one in our family has a shell fish allergy, in fact I could gorge myself silly on seafood.

Myy 2yo loves prawns and she's been having them every so often for past year. HV was just impressed that she enjoyed them at her 2 year assessment, and in no wyay concerned abut her having them.

If you are having them in a fish pie, they'll be cooked anyway so any potential risks are minimised I think.

Thanks for all the messages - went with the prawns and she ate one - dh and I scoffed the rest!
