do kids still like jam tarts?

I have a load of left over pastry, 4 types of jam left over from Christmas cooking, and 14-odd kids coming over tonight. personally I think jam tarts look lovely and colourful and I remember liking them, having them, and making them lots as a kid - but you just don't seem to get them these days. I know you get bought ones but I never see them at parties or school cake sales. given my pile of left overs I'll do them anyway but I'm wondering whether the kids will just look at them a bit askance...

mine do.

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 31/12/2007 14:57

i do...

suzywong · 31/12/2007 14:58

if they do, you can swipe the tarts on to the kitchen floor and begin to wail and cry hot tears of indignation .... it's tantrum revenge tactics.

I think it's very thoughtful of you to lay somthing on they can make and eat and if they don't like it they can bugger off home.

onepieceoflollipop · 31/12/2007 14:58

good plan - unless the kids are all about 14!

FairyTaleOfNewYork · 31/12/2007 14:59

ChippyMinton · 31/12/2007 15:01

mine like them. Don't burn them though, nothing worse than chewy jam

StephenCordeliaCod · 31/12/2007 15:01

i always cook the pastry, then put the jam in and put them back in the oven just for a few mins else the jam always burns.

hatwoman · 31/12/2007 15:05

suzy - we have 14 kids and 20 adults and rather a lot of alcohol. I have no doubt that at some stage in the evening I'll wail and cry anyway...

thanks for the tip addicted - makes sense.

Well I have 4 little eaters, all fussy in their various ways, but they all eat jam tarts. I think they are quite a treat in this day and age so that might make them more popular than they would have been in my day. They don't keep for long though so you will have to flog em hard.

hatwoman · 31/12/2007 16:53

they are made. and far too good for children. I am really getting into this pastry lark - I'm new to it and though I say so myself, rather good at it . next stop some form of sophisticated tart for adults. as it were.
