I've got make everyone aware that they should never again buy bog-standard mince pies.

You MUST pay the little bit extra and buy the Tesco's 'finest' mince pies. They are considerably better than any other mince pie.

Ok, I've said my bit.

What about Booths 'boozy' mince pies - they're the creme de la creme of mince pies!

DaddyCool · 17/11/2004 13:16

Oh no!! I haven't heard of them. Where can I get those bad boys?

Apparantly the Duchy Originals ones are the best - there was a huge rush on them in Waitrose last year and I didn't get any, but this year I have found some, not tried them yet.

If you make your own they are 100 x nicer than any from a shop!

CD - so glad you got in first with making your own. Didn't want to sound like a mince-pie snob!! But it is v. v. easy, you can freeze them and it's great to do with kids as they love nothing more than playing with pastry, cutting out shapes and generally making a mess.

I love the shop ones too though - have to be warmed up IMO!

actually girls - I make my own as well - its the ONLY baking a do - mince pies once a year! (they are gorgeous too )

I normally make my own but last year brought Sainsburys Taste The Difference. THey were awsome and I normally hate shop brought mince pies!!!!

DaddyCool · 17/11/2004 14:06

DW has made them in the past and they were very nice but she hasn't got alot of time on her hands these days since ds was born!

Bought some of the Sainsbury's ones, I'll try them tonight.

In Good Housekeeping () this month their taste test says that Tesco Finest are the worst and Somerfield mini mince pies were the best, closely followed by Duchy Organics ones.

enid · 17/11/2004 14:10

and they recommend prising the top off and putting a blob of creme fraiche in, then heating them up...

Or prize the lid off, put a swirl of meringue on top and blast in the oven for a minute or so. A bit like a baked alaska, yum, yum.

listmaker · 17/11/2004 14:23

I've got to go and buy mince pies on the way home now!!! Yummy!
