Help help - quick late night marzipan advice

I've just spent ages making marzipan and plastering it round the cake (last time I go through that malarky).

What happens now? I need to let it dry don't I? So do I just leave it out, or cover in clingfilm or foil?

I was going to ice it at the weekend, if that changes things.

thanks wise mumsnetters who are better domestic goddesses than me.

you don't have to let it dry, I didn't bother when I did my cake the other day. i brushed the marxipan with warm water then put the icing straight on. Seems ok to me!

I think you just leave it as it is and stick it in a tin??? Or perhaps cover it with tin foil? I'd avoid cling film tho coz it might make it sweat.

Haven't made a Crimbo cake for years so cant quite remember.

Sorry - not much help really!!

I used that ready made icing which is rolled out nice and flat - fabulous!!

MamaG · 19/12/2007 22:49

I love marzipan

Thanks - those weren't just quick responses they were supersonic thanks.

I haven't got the energy to ice it now, so I think I will follow advice and just put it back in the tupperware box it was living in before it had a new marzipan coat.

Gosh. Never again. Such a hassle for something no-one in this house really likes.

Thanks all.

you're welcome

I agree - far too much angst for something I personally will not even eat!! it's waitrose next year...

hatwoman · 19/12/2007 22:51

the thing that gets me is how do you actually get the marzipan on the cake. I try but it looses its way and ends up in my tummy. every time

MamaG, pop over - I vastly overcatered. Do you think it freezes?

Ready rolled icing here we come. Although after tonight I might choose not to, decorate it with some "wise men" on camels, and claim its a desert scene, if anyone questions it.

ooo a desert scene. That's a novel idea. You could claim they were following the star and all that!
