Does anyone have a recipe for chocolate pots/mousse that doesn't have raw egg in it?

Got pregnant friend coming to dinner friday night.

1 tub mascarpone cheese
1 20g bar chocolate (mix milk & plain to make it less rich)

Melt together in a saucepan. Pour into small dishes (about 4 I think). Leave to set. Or eat warm, straight from the saucepan with a spoon and have to buy more ingredients to make the pots au chocolat.

200g bar!

it's not a pot or a mousse exactly (though i'm sure you could make it in pots v successfully) but delia's truffle torte is gorgeous and v simple.

recipe's on deliaonline.com

it does say it's got 5 tbsp rum in it, but works fine without or you can substitute for fresh orange juice or just use a lot less. the liquid glucose can be tricky to find but boots the chemist generally stock it or can order it in for the next day.

Am I being daft but the risk of eggs for prgt woman come from the yolk which when added to melted chocolate cooks it? The beaten white is okay....?

Me and my, oh so careful friend ate Delia's chocky mousse whilst prgt.

(Or is this ANOTHER thing I did worng?? [grin})

The melted chocolate isn't hot enough to cook egg

muppetgirl · 17/12/2007 20:31

Oooo I was told it was....

muppetgirl · 17/12/2007 20:33

ah, beg pardon just checked in St Delia's book and it does say

"..this cooks the egg slightly"

You can't really measure slightly can you?

TheYoungVisiturkeyandstuffing · 17/12/2007 20:33

did you know you can get pasturised egg? restaurants use it.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 17/12/2007 20:40

An egg is "safe" when it's hard boiled. Which isn't only slightly cooked by any standard!

Nice try to justify your chocolate mousse consumption though.

it dies explain a lot about my ds though

Thanks for the ideas, I just rang said pregnant friend and read her the the recipe over the phone! It's a Nigella one and you have to pour almost boiling milk and double cream over the chocolate and then add the egg so she thought it would cook the egg...
