any advice on decorating gingerbread?

usually when i make gingerbread I just make plain ones and ds is happy with those. but I've kinda agreed to make some to sell at a christmas event for the school so was wondering how I could decorate them?

am making:

christmas trees, stars, snowmen, and bells.

any advice gratefully received... oh and, the simpler the better as decorating isn't my strong point .

ummm how about different coloured icing (icing sugar plus little bit of water plus food colouring in a bowl to a paste) .. can you get someone to help with a nice colour?

then get kids to stick on silver balls / sweets / sprinkles (loads in the cake section of supermarket)

oooh yeah that would work - I could do the trees green with sprinkles/the snowmen/stars white but with silver balls on the starts and... er .. not sure about the bells.

dh said I shouldn't decorate them as "um, you're not very good at decorating" .

I do gingerbread men and shapes and I found the easiest thing is the little tubes of writing icing you can get from most supermarkets.

Keep it simple, a face for the snowman and some buttons. Dots or an outline around the edge for the stars. Some garland and baubles for the tree and some dots on the bells.

Have fun!

but they're to sell at a christmas event .. honestly the more crap on them the quicker they'll sell (experienced voice)

get ds to do them .. or ds and some friends

ummm mrsweasley .. wannabe is blind so I think she's pointing out that she might not be great at the detail

hmmm I could potentially make a face with sweets though - chocolate buttons for eyes/jelly sweet for nose and silver balls or similar for a smiling mouth - and if I put the icing on the sweet before sticking it on it wouldn't make such a total disaster of the biscuit?

silver balls on trees/stars/bells with a milkyway magic star at the top of the trees?

or am I being too adventurous? .
