Has anyone got a fool proof/tried and tasted recipe I could use? Or for any other drink (especially warm ones!) suitable for the winter festivities?

You can buy mulled wine spices in bags, Levanna - Schwartz do them, I think they have a recipe on the packet. Cheating but nice and easy!

@ 'whooshfull'! do you think it would be appropriate to whoosh rather than splash in the brandy too?
Please say yes!

gluhwein £1.99 a bottle in lidl

pepsi · 15/11/2004 09:46

I use red wine, carton of apple juice, a few cinnamon sticks, slices of orange and a few cloves. It does the trick for me.

beansmum · 15/11/2004 09:48

i do the same as pepsi but add a bit of brandy too, yum. And for non-drinkers and kids i make spiced apple juice, just leave out the alcohol.

Beansmum I like the idea of mulled juice for the children.
I'm really looking forward to this! It'll be the first time I've had a good midwinter drink for yonks .
Oh, hang on........
small matter of breastfeeding to consider .

Here's my recipe:

Per bottle of full-bodied red wine, add half a pint of water, about 6 cloves, half a cinnamon stick, 3 - 4 oz sugar, and a few lemon slices. Heat gently and don't let it boil.

I use my slow cooker for serving as it keeps it hot without boiling. It's good to take out the spices if it is going to sit for a while.

I bought 18 bottles of Merlot yesterday for mulled wine that I'm making on Friday.

I'm serving hot spiced apple juice too - same recipe as the mulled wine, more or less (not quite as much sugar).
