How much soaking does a smoked gammon need ?

Our family party is tomorrow lunchtime.
When I did it before, I soaked it atleast overnight, 24 hrs I think, changing the water quite a few timews, to get rid of the salt.
But I only bought it today and have had it soaking sink lunchtime, having changed water.
Can I cook it tonight ?
Or should I soak it overnight and cook in in the morning. Will be abit of a rush to do it and get ready for party etc.

I've heard if you put a tattie in with it, that absorbs the salt ... might be helpful if you need to cook it tonight?

I don't actually soak mine...

I put it in a pan of cold water ,put it on cooker bring it to the boil ,empty the water out and refill with cold water and bring to boil again,I repeat this 3 times....

my gammon's never salty

thanks moonmother, but I wanted to roast it in foil with some orange juice, orange peel and cloves, in foil tent, rather than boil it.
I oven cooked it before and am hoping that I will have the same success.
