I do now have for about a yr now.

We have noticed we arent spending as much as i now go to shop with alist of what we need for the week.

I meal plan on, this is the start of my shopping list I write 7 meals and then write the list as to what i need and check the cuboards for what we already have in store.

Pasta and pesto with cherry tomato's and a little creme frache. Cook up pasta then drain and add creme fraich and three desserts spoons of pesto then toss in cherry tomato cut in half. Serve with grated cheddar sprinkled on top.

Chinese chicken and noddles with frozen mixed vegtables. I use chinese 5 spice (had the jar nearly a year now) and soy with a bottle of sherry (had the same bottle since jan)I marinade the chicken in the sherry soy and 5 spice, I use chicken thighs and skin and bone them myself and chop into slithers for stir frying. Add oil to the pan and stri fry the chicken then add the mixed froozen vegtables and in the mean time cook the noodles in a pan for three mins and add to the veg and chicken.

Smoked haddock with mash and vegtables. I cook the smoked haddock with grated cheese ontop then serve with veg and mash. Or you could try kedgree - I used to make this as I could go through the fish with a fine tooth comb for bones whilst flaking the fish to add to the rice.

Rissotto, I use the bbc food for rissotto recipies.

Spanish omlette on a Thursday to use up stuff in the fridge - can also be used for packed lunch.

Beef casserole or pork casserole to fill in probably two days during the week - it is easy to bung everything in the slow cooker one morning, eat that night and pop the whole lot in the fridge - then put on again the next morning for the following night (casseroles are always better the second day! Plus it is quicker than ready meals.

Chicken curry and lentil dalh with pitta bread to dip in the dalh.

I would think spanish omelette would be great for a 9mo.

littleolwinedrinkerme · 13/12/2007 11:12

9 times out of 10 any alcohol used in cooking looses its 'alcohol' during the cooking process if that makes any sense at all so yes that would be fine.

Spanish omlette - I make using 5/6 eggs, potatos and any left over vegtables or some frozen mixed veg (the small variety).

Boil the kettle
Chop the potato into smallish cubes.

Put the boiling water in the saucpean and bring back to the boil - now place the potato into the boiling water - boil for no more than 8 mins and drain well.

Heat oil (I use olive oil) in a fry pan with a little garlic and add the potato, and any spare vegtables, fry gently for 3 mins.

In a mix bowl or measuring jug break the 5-6 eggs and give a good whisk with a fork, add pepper and a tiny drop of water approx 2 tablespoons.

Pour the egg mixture over the pots and veg and gently cook for 5 mins, now place fry pan under grill watch carefully for 5 mins.

Alternitivley place the potato and veg after frying in a quich dish and pour over egg mixture and cook in oven on gas 4 for 25 mins.

Cut into wedges eat hot or cold.

My dd is 15 and takes this wraped in tin foil for her pack up instead of sandwhiches.

Aslong as your baby can eat eggs then they can eat this.

As the other post says, the sherry in the chinese chx evaporates and therefore is ok for baby to eat.

To make my chx curry. I buy only chx thighs (most economical cut of chicken) asda they are £1.90 for about 7-8 thighs.

Use one thigh per person. There are three of us so i use three thighs. (I use the rest of the chx in pasta bake and chx casserole through the week)

Skin the thigh and cut around the bone - cut the chx into same size pieces and place in a casserole bowl.

I use curry paste, this is paste not sauce and you will find in any supermarket it costs about £1.50 for a jar - this will last approx 5-6 curries; so well worth it.

Take 1-2 dessert spoons of curry paste and mix into the chx, now add a tin of chopped tomato (use the economy tin)Leave for 24 hours in the fridge.

Cook in casserole dish in oven on gas 3 for one hour.

Take on cup of red lentils and place in saucepan, add three cups of cold water and bring to the boil, add dessert spoon of turmeric and curry powder and then let this simmer until the water is absorbed into the lentils. Now either add a tin of chopped tomato or I add a bar of coconut milk (the one in the packet that you place in hot water - its cheaper) and just cut up the bar and add to the mixture - stir well. Serve with the chicken curry and pitta bread.

Sometimes I make the chx curry dalh and bombay potatos - I got the recipy from the bbc website and then keep some bombay potatos and use them in the spanish omlette - very tasty.

I eat the spanish omlette on its own or with crusty bread - I find omlette very filling.
