Starting solids while ds is at nursery

Anyone started solids after their child had started going to nursery?

Bean is 24wks and I haven't started solids yet, he's at nursery 3.5days a week and I don't know how to go about weaning him.

I want to be the one who gives him any new food but i'm not sure how that will work. Which meal should I start with? Will the nursery provide his food once we get going or will I provide it? Would it be practical to feed him in my luchbreak or is that a silly idea?

I'm not planning on giving him any solids for a few weeks yet but have started thinking (and worrying) about it.

Any advice?

Hi Beansmum. You need to talk to the nursery and discuss how you want to wean. My ds started full time nursery at 6 months and I had just started to wean him as I wanted to do it myself. His nursery have a cook and they puree some of what the other kids are eating for my ds. Some nurseries do ask you to take in food, so I'd check with them. They should be happy to feed him for you.

my nursery has a cook and for the babies they just puree what everyone else is having. Good idea to leave a list of what I've given him, will do that. I suppose it's not too long before they are on 3 meals a day? No clue at all how to go about this, bean will probably starve!

Hullo beansmum - another one whose dd started nursery before starting solids. She was 5.5 months and they were convinced I was engaging in child cruelty by only giving her milk!

Anyway, I was also a bit of a control freak on the food front - partly justifiably due to my eczema, asthma, nut allergy tendencies. I didn't want dd getting nursery food, as frankly I didn't trust them not to just give her eggsdairywheat randomly. So I sent in pots of food till she was 1. Started with lunch, then added breakfast and she was home for tea.

Even with those instructions we found out they'd been feeding her Jacobs crackers before I'd introduced wheat to her diet! Which only reinforced my control freakish tendencies.

Good luck - and I'm sure the bean won't waste away!
