Anyone know anything about malt Whisky?

I need to buy some Bowmore malt whisky as a gift but I am not sure about the age to buy. I can get 12, 15 and 17 yr old whisky. The price goes up the higher it is, does the flavour improve with age?

Thanks

It does change, and some would probably say it improves, yes, but a 12 year old Bowmore is going to be pretty nice. Although it is so long since I drank whisky I've forgotten everything. Who is it for - big whisky buff? Someone close? 12 yo fine for most, I'd have said.

Apparently so. I can't stand so much as the smell of blended whiskies but can occasionally drink a small malt whisky cos it tastes much nicer

I would go mad and get the 15 for myself ,but would be delighted if someone else got me the 12. For me the 17 would be a biggy ,like a wedding present or something

One of my DH's favourite whiskies is Bowmore but he prefers the bog-standard 10 yr old one. His parents gave him some "special" bowmore (think it was teh 12 year old) recently as a pressie and he didn't like it as much as the cheaper 10 yr old one.
