not cornflour - plain flour, baking powder, salt and shortnening according to wikipeadia. I was given a box once and used it to make american pancakes.

fireflyxmasfairylights2 · 05/12/2007 13:54

here

Is it a bit like thickener/cornflour/bisto?

MerryAnnSinglemas · 05/12/2007 13:54

yes, American pancake/waffle mix

dweezle · 05/12/2007 13:57

It's one of those awful preprepared American mixes - used for things like pie crust and pizza dough I think. American recipes state 'home-made' and then call or cans of mushroom soup and weird stuff. And what is it with sticks of butter........ Oooo - I just googled - Bisquick's made by Betty Crocker.....

TwotzThenightbeforechristmas · 05/12/2007 13:57

Its like a flour mix in a packet for making pancakes, scones and other things.

I have some, you just add egg and milk.

Betty Crocker, bless her, she's done all the hard work, you just open the packet and mix it.

1 cup of cornflour will make it into glue
Just use flour or a smaller anount of cornflour.

AndaPinionsinaPearTree · 05/12/2007 14:07

And in case you hadn't guessed it's a weightwatchers recipe, think Betty Crocker must have struck a deal with the old WW cos every blimmin recipe seems to ask for it.

bisquick sucks. It makes crap pancakes.

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 06/12/2007 12:43

I loved the american style pancakes that it made. I've never actually tried making them properly though, and was rather nervous of getting it right. Are they really that bad, or did you make english ones?

DaddyCool · 06/12/2007 16:44

american ones. I've got a top recipe that never fails but it's in cups and tblsps etc. A standard coffee mug is a cup.

3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon of baking powder
pinch of salt
half inch thick slab of butter (melted)
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 egg

voila! perfect american pancakes and they come out beautiful everytime.

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 06/12/2007 17:11

ooh thanks for that! I have measuring cups, ended up buying some after 'talking' to NQC and getting recipes from her. I may try that at the weekend.

do I jsut mix it all together?

DaddyCool · 07/12/2007 15:14

yeah, just mix'er all together. it's my brother's recipe and he's a food wally.

They really are quite perfect. I tend to go heavy on the baking powder to really puff them up... and the more butter, the better. They're perfect american restaurant style pancakes.

this recipe doesn't make much mind so you may want to double it up if you're cooking for a few little folks as well.
